Aanii niijii/Hello friends!
My name is Rylee LaLonde. I am a first-year PhD student in the Anthropology Department at Michigan State University. I received my Bachelor’s in Anthropology and English Literature from Northern Michigan University in 2022 and my Master’s from Northern Michigan University in Biological Anthropology and Native American Studies in 2024. My thesis research focused on looking at the Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act and the voices of Tribal representatives and community individuals. I am very excited to be a part of the MSU family!
My interest in digital heritage is new and stems from the ethical consideration of repatriated items being on display, specifically in the case of museums that partner with Tribes to build exhibits. Until participating in these conversations and having the opportunity to be a part of this fellowship I had no prior exposure to the world of digital heritage.
I am excited to return to the roots of coding from high school and learn how I can once again implement it into my studies. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of CHI this year to learn how I can incorporate digital heritage into the field of anthropology and my future research!
I can’t wait to start the project planning process! In my next post, I’ll share more about these thoughts, for now…
Baamaapii/See you later!
